Marching exercises
In principle, marching exercises can be held 365 days a year in the canton; the ban on drumming was abolished in 2011. Night-time rest must be observed.
This results in the following times:
Monday to Saturday 7 am - 11 pm
Sundays and public holidays 10.30 am - 11 pm
In the Lange Erlen recreation area, the police regulations of the respective year apply. As a rule, the police allow marching exercises from the fifth weekend before carnival at the following times:
from January 17, 2026:
Monday to Saturday 7 am - 11 pm
Sundays and public holidays 10:30 am - 11 pm
Further information on marching exercises in the Lange Erlen can be found on the Landschaftspark Wiese website.
In the Brüglinger Ebene (located in the canton of Basel-Landschaft), the following marching exercises can be held during the four weeks before the carnival:

Offiziells
Every January, around 400 carnival participants compete in the "Bryysdrummle und -pfyffe" (a competition for drumming and piccolo playing). The Fasnacht Committee accompanies this popular event in the form of a patronage.
Presidents' Conference
In the fall, the Fasnacht Committee invites the chairpersons of the almost 500 registered piccolo and drum bands, Guggenmusik bands, carnival floats and other formations to an information evening. The records of the meetings can be viewed publicly.
Band leader meeting
The band leaders have a responsible task. So that they can fulfill this as well as possible, we hold a meeting shortly before the carnival where we report on the Cortège in detail.
Courses
The Fasnacht Committee various courses in collaboration with the "JETZT afo Fasnacht mache" working group. There are courses for aspiring instructors as well as workshops on craft topics related to masks, costumes, and lanterns. The aim of these courses is to pass on craft skills and knowledge to the next generation and anyone else who is interested.
Next course: Instruction course (Fall 2026)
New registration for the Cortège
If you want to register for the Cortège for the first time, it's relatively easy - there are only a few requirements. You can find out what these are in our entry form. Please note that the registration deadline is July 31 of the previous year. Our office will be happy to help you.
From February 2 to 6, 2026 at the latest, the carnival leaflets can be handed in at the Band-Werkstätte to make a bundle out of it.
To give you an overview of what's happening in the world of carnival, we have compiled a list of upcoming carnival group anniversaries and responsibilities for "Bryysdrummle und -pfyffe", Grümpeli and Drummeli.
If an active member of a carnival unit registered with the Fasnacht Committee takes part in the carnival for the 50th time, their head can apply for a corresponding certificate.
