Frequently asked questions

Do camera crews and photographers need a filming or recording permit?

In principle, neither a permit nor registration is required. The Basel Carnival takes place on public ground. However, active carnival participants must not be hindered while marching. To film from a specific Fasnacht Comitee location in the middle of the route, you need an official badge, which can be obtained from our office before the carnival via info@fasnachts-comite.ch.

Can you obtain photos of the carnival for publication from Fasnacht Committee?

The Fasnacht Comitee can arrange contacts to photographers, inquiries can be made via info@fasnachts-comite.ch.

Can the Fasnacht Committee arrange contact with carnival groups or artists (mask makers, lantern painters, etc.)?

The Fasnacht Committee does not provide contacts or pass on names and addresses to third parties. However, journalists are free to contact the participants directly. Virtually all carnival groups have their own websites; an overview is available here.

Does the Fasnacht Committee assist members of the media during Basel Carnival?

No, but Basel Tourism offers such a service. If you are interested, please contact info@basel.com.

Are members of the Fasnacht Committee available for interviews during the carnival?

Interview requests should be made before the carnival, as all members of the Fasnacht Committee are actively involved during the three days and have little opportunity to make time for interviews. Interviews during the Cortège at one of the three locations of the Fasnacht Comittee are possible by prior arrangement; the chairman is available to media representatives on Monday afternoon at Steinenberg. Please contact us in advance via medien@fasnachts-comite.ch.

Can a media kit be obtained from Fasnacht Committee ?

This website and the brochure "Carnival in Basel" contain extensive information about Basel Carnival. The brochure is available in German, French, and English and can be obtained from Fasnacht Committee .
