The Blaggedde, the guardian of independence

The proceeds finance the creative artists and thus protect them from political and economic influences. The 2026 badge has been available since January 3, 2026.

"Blyyb verspiilt"

The 2026 Basel Carnival badge, with the motto "Blyyb verspiilt" (Stay playful), focuses on the energy and power that children and young people bring to the Basel Carnival. In a world full of uncertainty, Basel carnival provides a framework for celebrating a colorful, creative, and playful festival with lightheartedness, mischief, and joy, in a way that only children can. This energy is embodied on the badge by a cheeky, cheerful Binggis (dialect expression for a small child).

Blaggedde 2026

The 2026 badge artist, Orlando, felt inspired by the huge popularity of the Basel Carnival among young people and by the record participation in last year's BSFIDI (Basel school carnival in the city center). With around 14,000 children, caregivers, and active participants, the BSFIDI had more participants than the Cortège. With his piccolo-playing Binggis (dialect expression for a small child), he has designed a badge that he describes as "radically different" from previous badges. He believes that cities should lead the way in terms of artistry and that Basel Carnival should be allowed to try something new, bold, and creative. He deliberately designed the badge with a single figure rather than several, which can certainly be interpreted as minimalist. The pointed cap as a Basel staff fits perfectly into this logic. Orlando wants his badge to be understood as "drawn by a child's hand." Orlando: "Actually, Fasnacht gives us everything we loved as children: being out at night, making noise, making a mess, dressing up, and going from house to house with friends."

Copper badge for first graders

The Fasnacht Committee is giving all 2,000 first graders in Basel a copper badge. It will be distributed by teachers before the carnival holidays.

For the third time, all first graders in the Canton of Basel-Stadt are currently receiving a copper badge from Ms. Fasnacht, along with an invitation to visit the carnival. The Fasnacht Committee and the Department of Education of the Canton of Basel-Stadt hope that this will make the carnival well-known and popular among all children.
